As in all Moravian Churches, music is very important to the life of our church and provides many opportunities for all ages to participate in the worship and fellowship of the congregation. For the past 36 years, Jerry V. Jones has served the church as Music Director/Organist/Bell Master. Dr. Donna Rothrock of Salem College has also served as the Band Director for several years.
The Church Choir This all-volunteer, fun-loving group of extremely talented men & women meets each Wednesday evening (September-May) at 7:30pm to rehearse for one hour. We welcome teenagers and adults to become involved in the choir, no matter their level of musicianship. The choir provides a foundation for the entire Music Ministry and often works with other groups in preparation for services.
The Spangenberg Ringers Bishop Augustus Gottlieb Spangenberg was one of the most prolific writers of hymns in the present Moravian Book Of Worship (hymnal). He also played an important role in the Moravian Church worldwide. CMC stands on Spangenberg Avenue in Clemmons, NC. Therefore, we named our handbell ringers after Spangenberg in an act of respect to this great man of Moravian history. Through the generosity of the membership, CMC is blessed to own two sets of Schulmerich Handbells and two sets of Melody Chimes/Tone Chimes. This program is open to all ages 12 and above. We have had as many as three bell choirs of different ages going at once. Presently, we are in a renewed recruitment phase for Fall 2010. Playing the bells involves a good since of rhythm, a lot of determination, and a moderate knowledge of music. Rehearsals are held one hour once a week.
Children (K-5th) Sing The children get their chance to “make a joyful noise” through the “Kids Night Out” program, the Sunday School opening exercises, and Vacation Bible School (July). The children are always welcome to perform at Worship Services during the year (especially at Christmas & Easter) to the delight of everyone.
The Church Band In the Moravian Church, the Band is a unique part of our heritage. Our group plays a “prelude” of traditional chorales (on the front lawn weather permitting) for all Communion Services, lovefeasts, church festivals, Christmas, Easter Sunday Resurrection Service and when called upon for funerals of the brethren. Rehearsals are held weekly. Instruction and instruments are often provided for those wishing to play in the CMC Band (no age limits).
CMC has a strong and vital Music Ministry. We
welcome new friends into the fellowship with ease. Those interested
simply need to notify the church office and you will be quickly
contacted by the Music Director. We are available to answer all
questions and give everyone an opportunity to join. Church membership
is not required for any of these groups. “Love thy neighbor as
thyself.”
